Mount Etna, one of the world’s most active volcanos, has been putting on more magnificent lava displays over the last couple of days.
The volcano overshadows the city of Catania and has been very active in the last few months. In February, it exploded for days on end, shooting forth spectacular lava fountains and plumes of smoke.
An explosion on May 21 marked the 19th since February 16 this year. The volcano settled for about a month and a half but resumed eruptions over the weekend. Last night, it erupted for the fouth time in six days. Fiery balls of molten lava exploded from the southeastern crater illuminating the night sky.
Etna is one of three active volcanoes in Italy, along with Stromboli on the homonymous island and Vesuvius near the southern city of Naples.
